The design is quite sleek, with three tasteful blue status LEDs, not big and blocky like some other adapters. At no time did I see any lockups on my network, as I have with a different manufacturer's higher rated powerline adapter, and speeds were very consistent at each distance.

In fact showed I was getting 19 Mb/s, which is what I achieve on my base PC with a direct connection. Just about adequate for medium size high definition file streaming, say 4GB compressed HD movies, and still more than enough to max out my ISP's purported bandwidth of 18Mb/s. One room away (10 feet), this dropped to 5MB/s, and three rooms away, or 30 feet, the speed went down to 3MB/s.

This is more than enough for full Blu-ray streaming.

In the same room, essentially the same socket via an extension cord (not recommended, but it worked fine for me), I was getting file transfer speeds of 10.5 MB/s, with the included powerline utility program reporting 195 Mb/s (I've found these utilities to be optimistic, but assume they account for bi-directional flow, plus protocol overhead). I tested the TP-Link TL-PA2010 AV200 from three different power sockets in three different rooms at increasing distances. Pros: Never once dropped a connection, dipped in performance from the same plug-in point, or locked up my network. When I went upstairs from said location the speed dropped to ~4Mbps still better than what I would get on wireless G, if you will. I was getting ~10Mbps directly upstairs from the location of my router - this is perfect as 90% of the time my laptop is stationed in this room. I don't have this problem with my 50' cable as I don't have enough EMI where I typically run my cable and given that the cable is CAT 5e and only 50' attenuation is not an issue.Īs for the transfer speeds there were pretty good and what I would expect (at close range to router) at 100Mbps full duplex. Like I said very convenient! One of the downsides was that when I started separating my units farther apart the total bandwidth decreased, as I would naturally expect. I typically run a 50' CAT 5e cable to this laptop when I need to make large file transfers in shortest amount of time but having this cable running across the floor around the house is not something I'm fond of. I have an old Dell Inspiron that is about 5-6 years old that only supports 802.11(a/b/g) and an Ethernet port supporting 10/100 Mbps full duplex - transfering large files on the LAN via WiFi transfers at around 2.5 Mbps. Overall Review: Very impressed with these little units! Transfer speeds are great, consistent and no need to run wires around my house from the router - just from the unit on the outlet to my device. If you are like me and tend to run a long Ethernet cable for large file transfers across your house, fret no more!Įven using two rooms away from unit connected to my router the transfer speed is better than connecting via wireless-GĬons: Comes with 2 CAT 5 Ethernet cables, thanks for including them (as I would hope with a starter kit or even any router or Ethernet device purchase) but it is old tech. Good transfer speeds - units closer together on the same circuit the better QIG was easy to understand (I read it after setup), not sure where the other reviewers had their issues Supports IGMP managed multicast IP transmission, optimizes IPTV streaming.Īdditional Information Date First Available Power-Saving Mode automatically reduces power consumption by up to 75%ġ28-bit AES encryption ensures that the network is safe simply by pressing a button on paired devices Plug and Play, no new wires or configuration required Up to 300 meter range over a home's electrical circuit for better performance through walls or across floors No new wires, use existing electrical wiring Miniature design, smaller than most powerline adapters at the market, blends discreetly in front of any power outlet HomePlug AV standard compliant, high-speed data transfer rate of up to 200Mbps Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, Windows 7, Mac, Linux Learn more about the TP-Link TL-PA2010 Model Brand
